H.E.A.L Inc. passion to serve and transform lives is what drives us to care for the less fortunate children in the communities we serve. Just so you know, a 14-year civil war devastated the school system in Liberia and as a result;

  • A staggering 51% of primary and secondary school-age children, majority of whom are girls, were left without schools.
  • As of today, one in every six adults in Liberia is illiterate.
  • 95% percent of students in Liberia never saw a computer and don’t have books or learning materials.

H.E.A.L’s role is vital in the fight to alleviating these astounding numbers through its learning centers in Liberia.

The city of Atlanta is no exception to the trend of high illiteracy rate in the under-served communities. As the adopted city of H.E.A.L’s founders, it is an obligation to bring this fight to our adopted home. According to the Georgia’s Department of Education, in 2014

  • 38% of school that are considered “dropout factories account for 50% of children that leave school every year.
  • The graduation rate was only at about 59% and increased by 12% to 71.5% in 2015; but with even lower number in under-served. communities.
  • High school dropouts in the United States earn $200,000 less than a high school graduate over their lifetime, and almost a million dollars less than a college graduate.
  • 75% of crimes committed in the United States are by high school dropouts.

These statistics are staggering and unacceptable. H.E.A.L’s  long term goal is to play a positive role in helping to alleviate these astounding numbers. Whether students are dropping out of school in Atlanta or cannot afford a book in Liberia, it concerns all of us and we are to stand in the gap. Our vision is to eliminate illiteracy by providing educational resources and opportunities for the underprivileged youth in Liberia and Atlanta.

Our efforts will include:

  • Educational development
  • Mentoring
  • Youth empowerment

We need the support of everyone who believes that transforming one life is the beginning of transforming a generation.
